You Can Help a Child

Let none be like another

Yet each be like the highest

How can that be?

Let each be perfect in himself

Education and Teachers

You can read more about our educational methods in our book

From its foundation in 1937, the school has followed a philosophy of holistic learning. Children were to learn in an atmosphere of love and affection, without fear and to be able to develop their innate talents and skills.

The founders vision was of a system of education open to all, breaking barriers of caste, economic conditions or religion, where the physical and emotional needs of the child were as important as developing their minds.

Combining the best of western methods with values drawn from the Indian gurukul system, the school has over the years, evolved its own unique ways of teaching, while striving to keep up with modern ideas.

With a focus on play-way methods in the kindergarten and primary schools, we emphasise hands-on learning, through projects, music and dance, art and craft, drama, puppetry and other innovative and exciting teaching aids. Computers have been introduced in the primary school for all children, and are a powerful tool for teaching other disciplines as well.

With traditional hand-made teaching aids, we combine the latest technology in the form of LCD's displays for making our lessons interesting.

Science through experimentation is introduced as early as in Upper K.G., and our science labs and education form a strong basis for future learning.

Our policies of integrated education have opened up new dimensions in our educational methods.

Through various clubs-Nature Club, Junior Red Cross, Road Safety Patrol, Interact Club, Scouts and Guides, Literary Clubs, Heritage Club we enable our children to become well balance and mature individuals.

Sports are a key feature of our education and our extensive sports facilities at Sholinganallore have churned out many national and state level sportsmen/women.

Encouraging healthy competition is a difficult task in the modern world. While some degree of competition does stimulate a person to give his/her best, it is not necessarily beneficial for a child's overall growth. We beleive in recognising and bringing out the best in every child, and on our prize day , you will find a long line of children collecting prizes for excellence in academics, sports, art, music, dance, drama, literary activiites, participation in the class, use of the library, generosity and kindness, compassion to animals, social welfare work, and much more.

High grades are not the basis of judgement-learning how to be a good human being-unselfish, confident, self-reliant, and tolerant- is what we strive to teach our children.

Teachers

The teaching staff is the backbone of the school. From a small beginning with 1 teacher in 1937, we now have a large and competent staff of trained teachers, and helpers. From early 'Wednesday Meetings' begun by our founder, Mrs. Sharma in 1937, to bring together teachers to discuss ideas, we now run a number of training programs for our teachers.

Our Teacher's Training Programs introduced as early as the 1940's have culminated in our recognition by the Indira Gandhi National Open University as a Study Centre for Pre-Primary Teacher's Training course. Our Creche training course, refresher courses for teachers, training for integrated education all serve to update our staff and keep them in touch with latest developments in the subject.
