Creche & Day Care Centres
As early as the 1940's Mrs. Ellen Sharma began 'Mother's
Classes', where mothers were taught basic principles of hygiene and
child care. This grew and expanded into our first creche.
To serve the needs of working teachers and mothers, we
opened our first creche in a small room. Today we have two creches with
160 children from the age of 3 months upwards. The city creche is
located in Mylapore, while a rural creche is set up at the Ellen Sharma
Memorial Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Sholinganallore.
Free care, food and medical aid is provided to 35% of
the children who attend our creches, owing to their poor economic
conditions. Other children pay a very nominal fee.

The creches have:
-
Vibrant well designed rooms with dozens of
toys, and games, music, story-telling sessions, outdoor play spaces,
books and CD's in Tamil and English.
-
Loving care by trained supervisors and helpers.
-
Spotlessly clean kitchen and dining areas where
meals, health drinks and snacks are provided.
-
Cradles for the babies and mats, sheets and pillows
for the other little ones for their nap time.
-
Older children join our day care centre once school
is over, and can get special help to finish their homework, eat,
rest and play.
-
Medical aid facilities for minor treatment and
tie-ups with doctors and hospitals for emergency care.
Over the years, our school has also been invited to help
set up creches and day-care centres all over Tamil Nadu.
