Sustainable Rural Development
In order to
ensure a sustained food supply for our children we developed
agricultural and diary farms at Sholinganallore and Kelambakkam outside
the city of Chennai.
We are now able to provide for some of our needs for our children with
rice, pulses vegetables, coconuts, and by-products (oil), as well as
with fresh milk and milk products from our farms.
In addition to this, we Recycle all waste products from our
school at Sholinganallore through our Root-Zone project, which
ensures purification of waste water through organic and natural
means. This purified water is then used to irrigate our fields.

Our Root Zone Waste Water Purification Plant (organic,
eco-friendly)
 Fresh
milk for our little ones
Bio-fuel, Gobar gas (gas generated from cow dung), steam cookers, recycling of
waste products from the farms (coconut husks, etc.) help provide an ecofriendly way of cooking the vast quantities to feed our endless
hungry mouths.
To meet the demands of our village employees, we began a small creche
which has now grown into the Ellen Sharma Memorial Matriculation and
Higher Secondary School, Sholinganallore and the Ellen Sharma Primary
School, Karaipakkam.
Schemes for the welfare of village women -spirulina culitvation,
agriculture and dairy farming, batik and textile printing and baking-all
help them become self-sufficient and independent.
